MERCEDES GLS DETAILING JACKSONVILLE FL: Restoring Luxury from Pollen and Rust

When you drive a vehicle like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, you aren’t just driving a car; you’re piloting a masterpiece of German engineering. However, in Jacksonville, even the finest machines are at the mercy of our unique environment. Between the thick yellow pollen of spring, the salt air off the Atlantic, and the industrial rust fallout found near our downtown hubs, your paint is constantly under siege.

Recently, at Primate Detailing, we took on a GLS that had seen better days. It arrived caked in dust and felt like sandpaper to the touch—a clear sign of heavy contamination. Here is how we executed our Diamond Level Detail to restore its showroom soul.

The Problem: The Jacksonville "Rough Paint" Syndrome

Many owners in the 904 area notice their paint losing its "slick" feeling. This is often caused by rust contamination (tiny iron particles that embed themselves in the clear coat) and baked-on pollen. If you simply run a car like this through a local tunnel wash, you are essentially rubbing those contaminants into the paint, creating swirl marks.

Our approach is different. It starts with a calm, meticulous inspection—top to bottom.

Phase 1: The Pre-Wash and Chemical Decontamination

We began with a high-lubrication P&S Pearl snow foam bath. This "pre-wash" phase is vital; it encapsulates loose surface grime so it can be rinsed away without a single sponge touching the paint.

However, foam isn't enough for iron fallout. We moved into a chemical decontamination phase:

  • The Front Bumper: Targeted enzymes were used to break down organic "bug guts" that can etch into the Mercedes' finish.

  • The Rear and Lower Panels: We applied a specialized iron remover to dissolve the rust spots that had begun to "bloom" on the white paint.

  • The Wheels: Using a non-acid rim cleaner, we safely stripped away brake dust from the alloys without risking the delicate finish of the Mercedes rims.

Phase 2: Reaching the Heights (Literally)

One thing we pride ourselves on at Primate Detailing is that we don't cut corners—even the ones we can't see. On a full-size SUV like the GLS, the roof is often neglected. To ensure a true "top-down" clean, I personally stood on the tires to reach the center of the roof, clearing away the hidden pollen reserves that usually wash down and streak your windows the first time it rains.

Primate Insight: We never waste chemicals, but we are never sparing with them. We use exactly what is needed to ensure the bond of our protectants is absolute.

Phase 3: Interior Disinfection and Fiber Care

The luxury of a Mercedes is defined by its cabin. This Diamond Level service included:

  • Deep Fiber Cleaning: Meticulous attention to the leather, plastics, and fabric fibers.

  • Total Disinfection: An alcohol-based wipe-down of all high-touch surfaces.

  • Odor Removal: Ensuring the "new car" neutral scent is restored, not masked.

  • UV Protection: Applying a non-greasy shield to the dashboard and door panels to combat the Florida sun.

Phase 4: The Shield — ResistAll 6-Month Protection

Once the paint was smooth and the pores of the clear coat were open, we applied ResistAll. Unlike a standard wax that might last a few weeks in the Florida humidity, ResistAll provides a 6-month sacrificial layer.

We applied this to the entire exterior: the paint, the glass, and even the rims. This creates a hydrophobic barrier that makes future washes effortless and ensures the paint remains soft to the touch and mirror-like in its reflection.
